I just got back my Astra running strong full power like always does – sometimes intimidating. Ill check mine out tomorrow as I just washed the motor of my car a few days ago. Usually ends up giving no response until about 50% or more. Also I have replaced my TPS 2 times now (second time under warranty). Weird as the lights go away when it starts to warm up. For the last 3 winters (well just colder weather in general, 50F or below) my check engine light always comes on and gives me throttle position sensor and MAF. I have not done either so don't have an opinion either way. They have worked for me.Ī more permanent fix might be to add a thin bead of silicone to help the 0-ring and add a few zip-ties to make sure the box is closed. There are some posts here showing a few easy steps to disassemble and dry the box and components out. There is also the possibility water migrates from below into the box. It was a rather painful effort but only took a few hours. I fixed that by realigning the 0-ring and adding a bunch of silicone. A similar 0-ring was poorly aligned on the cabin air intake at the firewall of my Astra and killed a few resistor packs & fans.
The black 0-ring gasket is rather suspect. might inadvertently dislodge the black cover. Also someone changing a battery or disconnecting the battery etc. Vibration seems to loosen the two plastic clips a few times so I am always checking to make sure that box is securely closed. Drying the box and components resolved all codes. The typical codes I have seen include "throttle position sensor" but there have been others. Moisture seems to migrate into the black fuse box which is located under the hood, near the windscreen. My suggestion to you is to be aware of the ECM failure. It was about to happen anytime, anywhere! So, I had to tow back to the dealership. A complete mess! Right there it was pointing to an electronic failure. Little after that my engine start to run very unstable: The amber engine light come on, the recharging red battery light was flashing, the idle needle indicator was near 2000 rpm unstable, etc. When I was working in my fogs, I had to turn on the engine.

After 10 years may the ECM seals become worn out? So, moisture may corroded the ECM? Or, probably due to the upgraded sound system, steering wheel stalk, hid headlights, hid fogs, faulty relays, fuses, bad connectors, etc the loaded software may become corrupted and unstable? I will wash my engine at least 3 times in a year. I usually commute with my Astra full year-round from cold winters to hot summers (0 F - 100 F). Expensive! Does not guarantee back to the original state, due to the lack of tech support.
